Mayor McGinn of Seattle, our recent replacement for the vile Mayor Nickels, doesn't seem to quite have come to terms with "guns are a third rail - don't touch" in Washington politics. At least in his formal response to the City's recent court defeat after their attempt to defy state law and the state constitution certainly doesn't lead one to that conclusion...
"In a statement after the ruling McGinn said "cities should have the right to restrict guns in playgrounds, pools and community centers where children are present. The court's ruling was based on a state law, RCW 9.41.290, which preempts Seattle from regulating the possession of firearms. It's time for the state Legislature to change that law."" Le Sigh.
Hoo boy, he's just asking for it...
ReplyDeleteGood luck on that!
ReplyDeleteHe really tried to use the "ZOMG, it's for the chilluns" excuse? Seriously? How about parents have the right to protect their children from predators while their children are at said playground or park. If 120lb Suzy Homemaker is going to fend off 250lb Chester the Molester, I sure as hell would want her to have something that could level the playing field
ReplyDeleteYep, he sure enough did. He's rapidly using up the "well, at least he's not Greg Nickels" credit I was willing to give him when he initially took office.
