I've learned I'm not, even for a good cause, good at bullying old folks in any but extreme situations - that while annuities, life insurance, Supplemental Social Security Coverage, and best of all Long Term Care (either with or without a Nursing Home Component) are really REALLY good ideas...flogging the elderly with the rather hideous facts about the failings of Social Security and how much fun it can be to spend ones assets down to qualify for medicaid....leaves me feeling only slightly lower than a used car salesman. So...departed for other options while I still had some self-respect intact.
Beyond that, the Pride thing is making me slightly crazy - without burdensome detail, I'm a worrier...when I see a problem, I like to beat it to death with a handy 2x4 as swiftly as practical, and then move on to the inevitable *next* problem - I get antsy when the "beating and moving on" part are unduly distanced from the "problem recognition" part.
Since other folks are posting recipes...a family tradition that's good anytime, but particularly for one holiday or another.....
Ball Cookies
1 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp water
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
Cream butter and sugar; add water and vanilla. Mix well. Add flour and chill for 3 to 4 hours. Shape into walnut-sized balls. Dip in red or green colored sugar. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet about 25 min at 325 degrees. Doubling or Tripling the recipe is a GOOD thing.
